Hello! I am Amy (the one with red hair) but I'm often referred to as 'Doll' or 'The hat lady', which is totally fine by me! I make hats and fascinators as my creative outlet after long days spent at a computer for my day job in London. If you see me on my train commute, I may have my eyes closed because I burn that midnight oil, but I'm usually dreaming up my next design. My favourite things in this world include hats, vintage and repro clothing - generally of the fifties persuasion, my ever supportive partner (who only moans when my hat paraphernalia takes over the entire house), sausage dogs, Schnauzers, Alice in Wonderland, pineapples, Poirot and cake.
My millinery journey began with the lovely lady to my left, my mum. She's a creative wonder and over the years has taught hundreds of people how to do soft furnishings and upholstery among other things. When I was younger she taught me all sorts of crafty skills, such as bobbin lace, tatting, dress making, weaving...the list is endless although does not include knitting, however hard she has tried, I will always end up with the wrong number of stitches!
We love a crafty day out and so a few years ago she took me on a millinery course. There was a promise of cake and craft, which generally gets me involved. I fell in love instantly. I wore the hat I made to Stratford Upon Avon races ladies day the next year and was nominated for best hat and so many people stopped me to tell me they loved my hat. It was then I decided to open my own business, to share my hat love with others.
Although my own favourite hat style is a button cocktail hat, I have loved each and every style I've been asked to make as they all present a creative challenge. I also love being able to make something for brides; it's an incredible honour to make something that will be part of such a special day.
If you'd like to place an order or discuss a design, use the contact form below to get in touch, I'd love to hear from you!
